Question from a Pet Owner:
“I currently have two dormice. The first one I bought from a local market, and the seller told me it’s a female. After keeping it for a while, I noticed it began laying eggs. The second one I bought from a farm, and it’s a male. I’d like to ask: if I don’t want them to mate, is it possible to have them neutered or sterilized?”

Answer from a Veterinarian:
“Yes, dormice can be neutered or sterilized. In fact, if they are not neutered, it’s generally not advisable to keep two males together, as they tend to be aggressive. If you’re housing a male with a female, the male should be neutered first.
After neutering, one male can be kept with three to four females. However, even after being neutered, males may still exhibit some male-like behaviors, although they are usually less aggressive. On the other hand, female dormice can be housed together in any number, as long as the enclosure provides adequate space.”
